Life on Earth in Balance with Nature: My Witness Statement
Co-creating A Regenerative Future
Last night I watched Sir David Attenborough’s latest film on Netflix: “A Life on our Planet”. Having watched just about everything Sir David has presented over several decades with the BBC, I was surprised to find myself freshly and deeply moved by his personal “witness statement”. He speaks of how he has been privileged to have explored earth during her most beautiful years, while at the same time mourning how our species has damaged our fragile biosphere almost beyond repair.
This article is both a response to Sir David, and my own personal “witness statement” of the beauty I have been privileged to experience, while also mourning what we have destroyed in the pursuit of unending growth and personal enrichment. Plus some reflections on what we can and are doing about that, centered around the concept of “Balance”.
“Our planet hangs in the balance.”
“If we take care of nature, nature will take care of us. It’s now time for our species to stop simply growing, to establish a life on our planet in balance with nature. To start to thrive.”
