Synergizing What’s Working — Scaling Breakthrough Solutions to Global Challenges
With more than half the world locked down in April 2020, our global GHG emissions only dropped by 17%. Why? Our old mainstream industries continued to supply us with electricity, food, water, healthcare, online shopping and entertainment. 50 years of preaching to the converted by millions of well-intentioned, good but siloed organizations and hundreds of millions of members have failed to close the gap between where we need to be by 2030 and less-bad business-as-usual.
The emergence of the new mainstream powered by renewable energy, regenerative fishing, farming and forestry, circular economy manufacturing, conscious enterprises, voluntary simplicity, inclusive politics and resilient habitats must scale faster. We need to rebalance our dangerously out-of-balance world, fast. But how? By going non-linear, generating the conscious simplicity the other side of complexity, at warp speed.
The Balancer is a digital platform focused on empowering billions of mainstream consumers, citizens and their providers, to connect with things they care about, enabling them to make the positive impacts they care about, one day, one act at a time, integrated into their daily routine.
We encourage the vast majority of those relying on the old, too-slowly-changing mainstream systems, to pause for a moment, make wiser choices and share their insights and positive outcomes with friends, families and the wider world. We reward those organizations, causes and apps already doing good work through a “race-to-the-top”- creating the industries of the future, now, at scale. Encouraging collaboration and synergy between old foes and new friends alike through intrinsic and extrinsic rewards.
What enables us to do this? Two decades of mapping and connecting up pioneers of sustainability, transformation, enlightened enterprises and innovation at scale, have enabled us to build a comprehensive database of tens of thousands of major enterprises, thousands of causes and hundreds of apps. Using algorithms developed over the past decade and several hundred global standard data sources, we are able to simplify what really matters at macro and microscales into eight qualities that define what a regenerative, inclusive, thriving future looks like, and the six transition pathways to get there.
Convening and enabling organizations, causes and platforms of all kinds to become more strategically effective through collaborative advantage and aligned innovation is the new game we must play together to make 2030 a year of celebration. The Balancer is now partnering with a small number of organizations in developing the BalancerPRO: a cloud-based service that offers for-profit enterprises and for-impact organizations the ability to improve their true impact and enhance the attractiveness of their products and services through constructive engagement with buyers in their supply chains, as well as conscious consumers. Mirroring values, aligning actions, to scale up breakthrough innovations in the race-to-the-top we need now.
Put simply, markets and organizations mirror values and mindsets. Values and mindsets, like habits, tend to change slowly. Leveraging coalesced authority, power and influence to accelerate the transition from old mainstream to new mainstream in the next decade becomes our top priority. Integrating and simplifying the mind-numbing complexity inherent in simultaneously implementing global sustainable development goals, national, regional and city green and inclusive economic policies, strategic business objectives and resetting personal lifestyle priorities, becomes mission possible.
