Three Miracles in a Pandemic Christmas

At a time when we feel under assault from covid19, climate change and much more, it strikes me that there are three miracles that are in our midst right now we would do well to consider.

I’m currently enjoying time with my London family under those famous foggy winter skies, with some spare time on my hands. It struck me forcibly as I woke up this Christmas morn, just how lucky those of us who are healthy, happy and blessed with full stomachs with a roof over our heads, actually are.

The first miracle is just how robust a human body can be. I’m 65, and had covid-19 nearly 18 months ago, before any variants had arrived, then two vaccinations and a booster shot this year. Two years ago those vaccines did not exist. On my way to omicron central London from Barcelona, my before and after PCR tests were negative. I feel great, even as 1 in 35 Londoners are infected with covid19- 90% of them either asymptomatic or experiencing mild cold symptoms if vaccinated. I am a mask wearing, hand sanitizing social distancing person, which helps.

The human immune system is nothing short of miraculous. It can recognize and remember every virus and bug known to mankind, and mounts a life saving response if treated with respect and given a little help.
